Glasgow put to the sword

Yesterday saw a great day of Ultimate for the Men's 1st and 2nd teams, both playing FarFlung - Glasgow University Ultimate 1's in their BUCS fixtures.

The glasgow indoor team were National Indoor champions back in February (see pic) and all but one of those players - including St Andrews alumnus (and former YCC champion) Julian Grant - travelled over (plus the rest of their outdoor squad). That counts as a challenging opponent by any measure!

For the 1sts, it was the final BUCS Wednesday game of the season. After starting slowly and finding ourselves 4-1 down, we took half at 8-7 and went on to win comfortably 13-10. It was a really intense but fun game, and the win ensured a 2nd place finish in the league and a spot at Division 1 Nationals later this year.

Glasgow stayed in St Andrews to play our 2nds on the same day, rtaher than travel again for a separate match, and very nearly regretted it as the game turned into one for the ages. With both teams pulling out some great plays throughout the game and the momentum swinging from one team to the next, it was Glasgow who eventually took a close win, 11-9. Despite the loss, the 2nds are not disheartened after playing some of the best Ultimate of their season so far and pushing such an excellent Glasgow team to the very end.
